Statement: Hands off Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua!
November 15, 2021
The Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression stands in solidarity with Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua in the face of increased intervention by the imperialist United States government. We affirm the self-determination of the people in these countries and uphold their right to free elections without Western interference. We demand that the United States respect the leadership of the people and immediately cease all cruel sanctions and other military attacks towards these nations.
Since the July 26 movement overthrew the brutal fascist dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959, Cuba has inspired all Latin American and Caribbean people seeking freedom. The United States has tried to destabilize socialist Cuba through a six-decade-long crippling economic blockade and CIA-sponsored propaganda campaigns. The global pandemic has put a strain on Cuba’s economy, and the blockade has made it difficult for the nation to receive vital necessities. Despite their struggles, Cuba continues to send medical professionals and supplies worldwide to serve other nations, including their COVID-19 vaccine. The US-funded National Endowment on Democracy funnels millions of taxpayer dollars into opposition campaigns and groups to destabilize nations, such as the #SOSCuba protests launched last summer. This opposition plans on launching protests on November 15 to overthrow the democratically elected Cuban government. We reject all attempts to interfere with the self-determination of the Cuban people who fiercely defend the Cuban Revolution.
The United States has launched similar attacks on Venezuela and Nicaragua in response to the people electing socialist parties that pose significant threats to the US empire. In August 2021, Venezuelans came out en mass to support Hugo Chavez/Nicolas Maduro’s United Socialist Party of Venezuela. On November 7, el Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) won the Nicaraguan election with 76% of the vote. The United States government has spread lies about the authenticity of these elections because oppressed nations exercising their power threaten the interests of US-backed corporations. We also join in the call to free Venezuelan Diplomat Alex Saab who currently faces unjust and illegal charges.
Latin American nations are rising up and demanding their right to control their destiny and their nations. Every blow to the US empire moves us further along the path to Black liberation. As an organization located in the belly of the beast, we cannot be silent as the US attacks oppressed nations. We must demand an immediate end to this repression. We stand in unconditional solidarity with the peoples of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua in their struggles against the U.S. imperialists.
Hands off Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua! Viva Cuba Libre!
US Out of everywhere!
Free Alex Saab!
